Mobile app and complimentary responsive website designed to help people change career paths - Netol

Those who would like to switch careers and need a tool to guide them, Netol is the answer

Being Lead UX Designer, it is my role to ensure this product performs on multiple devices. Different wireframes and prototypes are important here.

In this case, a real and complete competitive audit was done. It has come to my attention there are less resources in the career-changing world than I imagined. I found a few main companies that popped up through google search; they appear to be generalized in my opinion. Not many companies seemed to offer truly personalized career content in the way Netol does. With that said, Netol will fit right in.

Thought Process

As a young female in the working world who is changing paths in life herself, this case is particularly special. Even I have struggled to find true and knowledgeable information about what career route to choose and how to get there. I think most people aren't even sure what their options are; neither was I.

Majority of people changing jobs or careers tend to be older - somewhere between 35 to 50 years of age. But of course, you can be any age! That's where Netol comes in; you're never too old!

Netol needed to be different. As I was designing the app, I realized it was looking more like how the website should look - a lot of information, and too much for a small screen. The app needed to have its own purpose and be personable. While the website is more for general information and resources, I ended up designing the app to where you create an account and login for a personalized career-searching experience.

An example of a Netol user is Gilbert

Gilbert's user journey represents creating an account with Netol through the app.

As you might be able to tell by the wireframes, the first few had the feel of a website. Although there are apps that do look similar and have lots of information on the home page, I realized this was not what Netol's app should look like. By the final mobile homescreen wireframe, the app had been fully re-designed.

It was actually after creating the first round of wireframes, that the app was fully re-designed. I ended up jumping around from figuring out the app, to the website, and to the mobile website. Not ideal, but I am happy to say the final product did turn out.

The tablet and laptop mockups are representative of Netol’s website and not Netol’s app.

Moving Forward

This project was definitely challenging. I redid the wireframes, and re-designed the whole app after realizing I was designing more of a website in app form. I had to really figure out what the purpose of the app was going to be - and I did!

This app can be for anyone of any age trying to change their career path and start something new. By creating an account, Netol comes up with personalized career selections specifically tailored to your career assessment.
