Crochet Biz

Slightly different than your traditional small business, but big enough to make an impact! My best friend taught me how to crochet about two years ago. After some discussion and collaboration with another mutual friend, we made the decision to turn our hobby into something more. You may be familiar with farmer's markets, craft fairs, etc. We successfully attended four different craft fairs over the span of about five months just within the bay area in 2023!

We crocheted items from as small as mini plushie whales to full size tote bags. I got the opportunity to design our business cards as well as the banner that hung up on our tent at each market. We decided on our name as a group - slightly provocative, but humorous. I thought it was best to include our instagram user names as well on both the cards and the banner to better market ourselves.

I used Canva to design the business cards and the banner. The business cards were done first. There were two completely different designs in the beginning. I was trying to gage what direction we were attempting to go as a group and the type of energy we wanted to give off. One design was more down to earth, muted, and simple. It was less colorful, but straightforward. I liked it, but it didn't feel like us. We were bubbly, out-going, and girly. So, the second design was more colorful and cloud-like. In the beginning, the decision between the two was split, as are our personalities. In the end, we went with the colorful and cloudy design since it mimicks more of what we create as a whole. 

As far as the banner went, it initally was going to be the exact same design as the business cards, but our opinions differed. To compensate, I designed a similar version of the business card, for the banner. At the end of the day, we got the best of both worlds. The banner should be simpler. It needs to be seen from far away and exceptionally easy to read while still being eye-catching, but not too similar to the business cards or it might look like a mistake. Designing the banner was more of a challenge, but a fun one at that!
